In 1986, Dennis Stanton published a lovely paper explaining how the Macdonald identities are derived from the symmetries of the underlying root systems and showing how this idea can be pushed to derive variations of eta-function identities. This is a summary of Dennis’s approach with some additional identities discovered by Erik Slivken, a former student, and myself by exploiting his insights. |
