Mathematics Seminars for the week of May 3, 2004

Colloquium

Thursday, 3:30, in VinH 16

Professor Elizabeth Mansfield
of University of Kent, England
will speak on
"Moving frames and the evolution of invariants"

In this talk, I will present applications of the Fels-Olver methodology for moving frames to a range of integrable curve flows such as the Korteweg-deVries equation. This approach opens to the door to devising geometric numerical integrators for such systems as wll as to integrable differential-difference systems.
