Being taught by professors who are certified actuaries gave me a primary resource to learn about the actuary career. MCFAM also has connections with a large variety of employers ranging from pension to reinsurance and consulting. I actually learned the most about the profession by going on informational interviews and attending networking events which I learned how to do through MCFAM career support and the University of Minnesota Actuary Club. Academic advising from both the MCFAM Academic Director and an Actuarial Lecturer and Advisor helped me fully understand and learn all of the key actuarial concepts in my coursework. Their dedication to students definitely contributed to my success as an Actuarial Consultant. Our MCFAM Executive Director was also a huge reason that I received as many interviews as I did from insurance and consulting companies. She frequently updated the actuarial students on job opportunities, and she helped me fine-tune my interviewing skills as well as my resume. She fit all students who wanted support into her schedule and they received her undivided attention.
