1031 Course Description

Course Description: Math 1031, College Algebra

Overiew: Linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; graphs of equations, including lines, circles, parabolas; composition, inverses of functions; transformations of graphs; linear and quadratic models; polynomials; exponentials, logarithms; counting; probability. 3 credits. 3 lectures, 1 recitation per week.

Prerequisite: 3 years high school math or C- in GC 0731 or placement exam. Trigonometry is not required.

Audience: Business majors wanting to take Math 1142 (Short Calculus) and elementary education majors wanting to take Math 3113 (Math for Elementary School Teachers). Also works as the prerequisite for Math 1151 (Precalculus II), after which students can take Math 1271 (Calculus I). Satisfies the CLE Mathematical Thinking requirement.
