Online Application for Financial Mathematics

All application materials should be submitted electronically via the ApplyYourself admissions system. We cannot review your application until ALL of the materials are submitted successfully, including letters of recommendation and transcripts.

Early application is encouraged for all candidates. Candidates whose application is complete prior to 28 February will be evaluated and notified of admission decisions by 31 March. The final application deadline is 5 June for fall enrollment. All required materials must be received by 5 June, or the application will not be reviewed by the admissions committee.

In MFM, we admit new students for the fall term of each year only. In FQF, there is the possibility of spring admission, but ONLY for those who are taking (or have taken) FM 5001 at the time of their application. See Q4 in our FAQ file.

We no longer have a departmental application. You need only apply to the University of Minnesota Graduate School. WARNING: Be very careful to select, as your major, one of the following:

Do NOT choose "Mathematics M S". If you wish to take the FQF certificate online, it is important that you select the "Distance Certificate". (Conversely, if you intend to be an in-class student, it is important NOT to make that "Distance Certificate" selection.)

Please read through our admission requirements at http://www.math.umn.edu/finmath/admission_requirements/. Note that this website contains our "Institution and departmental ETS codes" for the GRE and TOEFL, near the bottom.

NOTE: If you wish to be exempted from the preparatory course sequence (FM 5001/5002), then we require that you submit a GRE Mathematics Subject test score. Only the Mathematics Subject test needs to be taken. Note that, for students who take FM 5001/5002, the program is a minimum of two years in length.

NOTE: Letters of recommendation are handled by the Graduate School's online letters system, which you'll see as you go through their online application system.
