A Bird's Eye View of Modern Portfolio Theory
Chris Bemis, Whitebox Advisors

Abstract:

Much of Modern Portfolio Theory will neither make you money nor mitigate your risk. We look at some pressing reasons for this while assuming little to no previous knowledge of the theory. Our essential point is that nonstationarity, while rendering much of modern mathematical finance intractable or even moot, is a key reason students of the field are - and will continue to be - a useful asset for the financial industry at large.
