I think you have to jump through some hoops to see these things reasonably without at least the (free) Powerpoint viewer.
People with Windows who do not have Powerpoint, should download the free Powerpoint viewer from Microsoft.
People with Linux have some options, but not all of them are great. I would try Impress (part of OpenOffice) first, since that mostly works.
The issue with PDF is that the animations remain pretty inscrutable. I will look into an add-on which says it can convert a Powerpoint presentation into flash animation.
