Summer FellowshipsEach year, the Mathematics Department attempts to distribute a number of fellowships to Graduate Assistants in good standing who intend to study and do research during the summer. The amount of the fellowship varies depending on the financial situation, but we hope to offer at least $2,000 whenever possible.
Students accepting this fellowship commit to stay in residence in the Twin Cities area for at least two continuous months of the summer. This two month period must begin no earlier than the day after the last day of finals in the preceding spring semester. It must end no later than the first day of the student's TA/RA appointment in the following fall semester. Students accepting this fellowship must not receive a summer Research Assistantship and must not accept teaching duties during the summer. They must not take a paid internship. They must not take any employment during the summer. These requirements apply to the full summer, and not just the two month period mentioned in the last paragraph. Exceptions to this rule: IT: Talk Coordinator and summer CLA math advising specialist. International students seeking summer fellowships have the responsibility to make sure that they can be paid between 9 June and 3 August without violating any immigration rules. There are typically four pay periods for the summer fellowship. In Summer 2009, they are:
