Andrew Berget
Starting with some natural problems in graph theory, I will introduce the Tutte polynomials of a graph. We will discuss its analogy to the familiar Jordan-Holder theorem of abstract algebra and then give a surprising and linear algebraic interpretation of this polynomial. This talk will focus on examples and no familiarity with graph theory will be assumed.
