Alexander Hanhart
Morse theory, essentially, is the idea that information about the topology of a manifold can be given by a differentiable function on that manifold. In this talk, we will review the basic techniques of the theory, culminating in Morse Homology. If time permits, I will also describe how I've used Morse theory to help in my research. This talk should be highly accessible, since the theory relies only on the computations used in multivariable calculus.
