A genetic model with two types of genes obeys a nonlinear differential equation. I will briefly discuss the derivation of the equation. The solutions of the equation turn out to be the critical points of an appropriate functional. The existence of solutions is established by finding critical points. Prerequisite is Calculus. Walter’s talk on “What is a weak solution?” would be helpful.
