In this report, we analyze the mechanics of a wire rope cable arising in a
medical application. Starting from the theory of linearly elastic curved thin
wires, we develop a model for the deformation of cables consisting of several
wires arranged in a geometric pattern. A computational tool that calculates
stresses in the cable is constructed. The tool can be used for design purposes.
