The bottom panel has six icons for application shortcuts.
These icons can be moved, removed, or set to launch a different application.
Two icons, web and mail, can also be set using the "Preferred Applications" control panel.
In a web browser, clicking on email links may launch your preferred email client. Firefox launches the preferred email client, but Mozilla, Konqueror and lynx use their own default for email.
For application specific preferences try the menus ">Edit >Preferences" or ">Tools >Options". For command line tools check the man page, or running the command with a -h or -? option.
