Textbook: Lie Groups: an approach through invariants and representations by C. Procesi, 2007, Springer UTX.
Lecture: Mon-Wed-Fri at 11:15am--12:05pm, Vincent Hall 301
Course Description:
This is a two semester course for introduction to Lie groups and Lie algebras and their
representations. The textbook has 15 Chapters. I will cover Chapters 1--9 in the Fall
Semester, 2007 and finish Chapters 10--15 in the Spring, 2008.
The materials covered in this year-long course can be viewed as an introduction to general Lie Theory
from algebraic point of view in general. It is fundamental to many research areas in modern mathematics.
It is definitely important for students who intend to study Algebra, Combinatorics, Automorphic Forms,
Mathematical Physics, and any Mathematics with group actions.
Homework, Exams, Final Test:
Homework Problems will be assigned, but no exams are required.
