The Seiberg-Witten invariant introduced in 1994 continues to remain an extremely
useful tool
in the study of smooth 4-dimensional manifolds.
In this talk, we will review the definition of
the SW invariant and some of its basic properties. No prior knowledge of SW invariant will be
assumed.
