Abstract. For a cuspidal automorphic form $\phi$ of $GL_n(\mathbb{A})$, where $\mathbb{A}$ is the ring of adeles of a number field $k$, the well-known Fourier expansion of $\phi$ in terms of the Whittaker-Fourier coefficient of $\phi$, due to J. Shalika and I. Piatetski-Shapiro, independently, was fundamental to the theory of automorphic forms. In this note, we extend this Fourier expansion to the whole discrete spectrum of the space of all square-integrable automorphic forms of $GL_n(\mathbb{A})$ and determine the Fourier coefficients of irreducible, non-cuspidal, square-integrable automorphic representations of $GL_n(\mathbb{A})$ in terms of unipotent orbits.
