Education

PhD, Mathematics, 1998, University of Illinois at Chicago
Displacement estimates for hyperbolic manifolds

Research Interests

Low-dimensional geometry and topology

I am interested in the geometry and topology of three-dimensional manifolds and the related geometric group theory. In particular, I study automatic structures for the fundamental groups of hyperbolic 3-manifolds and their relation to the geometry of the manifold via Patterson-Sullivan measures on the limit set of the manifold.

Mathematics education

I am interested in all aspects of teaching college mathematics, including the quality of instruction in introductory courses, teaching elementary and secondary teachers, training and mentorship of graduate teaching assistants, and recruitment programs for undergraduate majors and graduate students.

Previous employment

From 1998 to 2007 I was Assistant Professor and Lecturer of Mathematics at the University of Michigan.
