What to do if the Mandalia applet doesn't run.

Due to differences in computers and browsers, you may have trouble running the applet. Here are some possible ways to fix the problem.

1. Turn on Java in your browser. The applet is written in Java.

2. Switch browsers. Much as it pains me to say so, it seems that Internet Explorer has better a Java language implementation than Netscape, at least so far as the Mandalia program is concerned.

3. Install a Java plugin into Netscape. For the Macintosh you will need to have the latest version of Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) installed and then install the MRJ plugin which allows Netscape to use MRJ instead of its built-in Java interpreter.

4. Run the applet using an applet runner instead of a browser. On the Mac you would use the applet runner which comes with MRJ. You should use the Open Location command in the File Menu and type the location:

http://www.math.umn.edu/~rick/Java/MAJ.html

5. Download the Mandalia application program for the Mac. It will run as an ordinary application without a browser.
