Wednesday, May 6, 2009. Minnesota PDE seminar Speaker: Professor Pablo Pedregal, Universidad de Castilla - La Mancha Title: On a non-linear PDE arising in optimal design. Abstract: It is well-known that the limit problem, in the sense of homogenization, of a family of linear, uniformly elliptic problems is also linear, elliptic in the context of G-convergence or H-convergence. Motivated by typical situations of optimal design problems governed by diffusion equations, we will take a slightly (but intimately connected) perspective, leading to a non-linear limit problem. The aim of this talk is to explain how this limit problem arises within the framework of optimal design. We will also say a few words about the corresponding hyperbolic situation. ******************************************************************************
