Speaker: Changyou Wang, University of Kentucky Title: Hydrodynamic flow of nematic liquid crystals in dimension two Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss a simplified Ericksen-Leslie system modeling the flow of nematic liquid crystals, which is a nonliner coupling between the Navier-Stokes equation and the transported heat flow of harmonic maps into $S^2$. We prove the existence of a global weak solution to the system that is smooth away from finitely many singular times. Asymptotic behaviors near singular times and time infinity are obtained. This is a joint work with Fanghua Lin and Junyu Lin.
