Mathematical competitions at UMN

MAA/NCS team competition

The MAA/NCS competition will take place on November 12, 2011.

The competition itself is three hours for ten problems. Students are organized into teams of three or two students, and work collaboratively. The competition consists of other teams from the Midwest and Canada.

William Lowell Putnam mathematical competition

The Putnam competition will take place on December 3, 2011.

The Putnam competition consists of a morning session and an afternoon session, each three hours for six problems. Students work individually. The competition is nationwide.

Interested?

Practice sessions for these competitions run weekly; students can come and go as is convenient. The location is in Ford Hall 60, and the practice sessions will be held from 11:00 to 3:00.
