I was a PhD student at Minnesota working in applied math, specifically calculus of variations and PDEs in image processing. I finished my PhD on August 11, 2006 under the supervision of Fadil Santosa. I have since relocated to sunnier climes and will start a postdoc at UCLA. So long suckers!

A year ago I passed my oral exam, a little hazing ritual the math department makes us go through. I wrote a survey paper on methods for image interpolation. Then I went to EZhou, China for the Lotus Hill Research Conference on Computer Vision. I gave a talk there on my work on Mumford-Shah super-resolution. I had a fantastic time, met some cool people, and learned some stuff about image processing too. This was my first trip outside the US and it was really great. I've posted some pics and memories from the trip here.

The photo of me above was taken by me, looking in my bathroom mirror. Not a very flattering photo. Not much I can do about my mug, but it makes my hand look enormous. And my cheeks look like they've got an ironed crease. Not that I've ever taken a good photograph, mind you. John Hall posted some even weirder photos of me here and here. Spooky.

The cat in the upper left corner is Schrodinger. I guess Schrodinger is my cat, in as much as a cat can belong to anyone. Unlike me, Schrod is very photogenic.
