Travel and Local Information

Getting to Minneapolis
The Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport's code is MSP. The major airlines fly to Minneapolis.
Megabus has service to Minneapolis from Chicago, via Madison and Milwaukee. Greyhound has service to Des Moines, Chicago, Milwaukee (and points in between and beyond).
Both I-35 and I-94 pass through Minneapolis. It is about 275 miles from Madison and 400 miles from Chicago.
Getting to Campus
From the aiport
Take the light rail from the airport to the Downtown East/Metrodome station. When you get off the train, walk towards the back of the train. There is a bus stop at the end of the platform. Take any of the buses (3, 16 or 50). The conference will be on the East Bank part of campus, which is the third stop after the light rail and the first stop after you cross the river. The stop before the river is the West Bank stop, which, while it's clearly campus (there's a giant mural of a gopher after all), isn't the part of campus you want.
From the Megabus stop
The bus stop is in a parking lot at the northeast corner of 3rd St and Chicago Ave. Walk south on Chicago one block and you'll be at the light rail. Cross 4th St and catch the bus from the stop at the end of the light rail platform (see directions from the airport).
From the Greyhound station
The Greyhound station is on the corner of 10 St N and Hawthorne. With the station behind you, walk one block on 10th to Hennepin. Turn left. Walk to 4th Street. Catch the bus (3, 16, 50) on 4th Street. (4th Street is one-way eastbound (though it doesn't actually run quite east-west). You want to catch the bus travelling in the same direction as the traffic--there's also a bus lane in the other direction.) Once you get on the bus, follow the instructions from the airport.
Lodging
  • There is a Days Inn within walking distance. We have secured a block of rooms at the Days Inn at a special rate for the conference. Information is to follow.
  • The Holiday Inn Metrodome, is about 15-20 minutes walk from the conference. (Depending on construction, the campus shuttle may stop very close to the Holiday Inn, as an alternative to walking.)
  • The Minneapolis International Hostel is about three and a half miles from campus and is, as far as we know, Minneapolis's only youth hostel. It's about a 30 minute bus ride on the weekend.
Food

The IMA has list of restaurants near campus. Ask us if you need vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/etc options.
